2. Match the complete tire specification
The size describes the tire’s dimensions; the service description includes its load index and speed rating. They answer different questions, so a quote should identify both. Ask the installer to explain any proposed difference from the vehicle specification before ordering.
Do not assume that every EV needs Extra Load (XL) tires, or that an XL marking by itself confirms suitability. Fitment depends on the complete requirements of the particular vehicle and wheel package.

4. Identify the warranty that applies
An OE application listing and a replacement-tire warranty serve different purposes. The 2026 NEXEN TIRE US warranty excludes original equipment tires supplied on new vehicles from that replacement policy and directs owners to separate applicable OE coverage.
For qualifying N’PRIZ S replacement purchases, it lists 60,000 miles of limited treadwear coverage for EVs, compared with the model’s 80,000-mile general entry. These are conditional coverage figures, not guaranteed service life. The policy also excludes tires with a lower load index or speed rating than the OE tire.
Before purchase, ask the dealer to identify the applicable policy, maintenance requirements and records to keep. Where a vehicle’s different front and rear sizes prevent rotation, check the policy’s rear-tire mileage limitation as well.
5. Review the written quote before paying
A complete quote makes the order easier to verify. Ask it to include:
- Manufacturer, exact model and product code.
- Size, load index, speed rating and any required construction marking.
- Quantity and front/rear placement where relevant.
- The total installed price, with included services, taxes and any additional charges identified.
- Applicable US warranty documents and the dealer’s maintenance guidance.
Keep the final invoice, installation mileage and service records together. If the proposed tire changes before installation, have the replacement checked against the same specification sheet.
Questions before ordering EV tires
Do EVs have to use EV-specific tires?
No. Tire manufacturers now offer tires designed for use on both internal-combustion vehicles and EVs. Michelin and NEXEN TIRE, for example, sell tires that can be fitted to both types of vehicle. NEXEN TIRE marks tires suitable for EV fitment with an “EV Root” symbol, so look for that marking.
Can I use the Niro EV example for my own car?

What should I do if the quoted load index or speed rating is lower?

Does an OE listing mean the replacement warranty automatically applies?
